YOU might have noticed that Hallowe'en is this weekend.

Certainly, the city’s club promoters have.

If you’re on the lookout for some non-frightening fun over the next few days, it’s in short supply.

Every event listing – be it in the gigs, clubs, arts or poetry reading section – is geared towards the spooky and the macabre.

For a section of the population, this equates to a horrible night out-mare.

Hallowe'en is one of the busiest nights of the year, and draws crowds comparable to Hogmanay.

For others, it’s the perfect excuse – not that some people need one - to don a controversial costume and get a photo on Facebook that brings in the Likes.

Regardless of whether you see Hallowe'en clubbing as hell or heaven, there’s no avoiding it. So here are our top picks, sorted by day.

Tonight, there’s only one real option, as DJ Sneak presides over a house disco bloodbath at the Sub Club.

A true pioneer of the genre, Sneak is an original Chicago player who specializes in groove-heavy, disco-inflected house and tough, jackin’ techno.

Then, on Friday, Optimo call time on their beloved Espookio party after 18 years of Hallowe'en hoedowns.

Since Espookio started, “Glasgow has gone from Hallowe'en parties in nightclubs being an anomaly,” said Optimo, “to there being endless parties to choose from… Optimo feel they should break from the pack and call time on this particular annual event.”

All of which means that this year’s winner of the hallowed best costume award, the Optimo Hallowe'en Cup, will get to keep it forever.

If that isn’t a reason to up your game, then what is?

Uptown, new addition Club Action has UK house producers Darius Syrossian and Josh Butler in the basement for a “night of terror”.

That pales in comparison, though, to the scenes that will unfold south of the river, as the GBX takes on the O2 Academy.

He’s joined by the Dutch hardcore masters Paul Elstak and Dyewitness, and Scots techno throwbacks Chill FM.

What a difference a day makes - on Saturday, the same venue will host the sold-out Club Noir Masked Ball, a markedly different prospect to the insanity of the GBX.

Debauchery of a different kind is the order of the day here, with burlesque performances, live music and DJs Loveless and Poprock playing until the wee hours.

Pressure’s dark freakshow over at SWG3 is the other main draw on All Hallow’s Eve itself. Berlin-based Belgian Peter van Hoesen lays down a soundtrack of textured techno as he makes his Glasgow debut, Bella Sarris brings bass-heavy beats all the way from down under, and locals Ivan Kutz, of Platform 18, and Petrichor get things warmed up.

As always, the evergreen Slam top the bill with their cutting-edge, dynamic sounds.

SMD’s boat party departs the Riverside Museum early doors, with Liverpool’s Kydus, Digital: Groove’s Woody, and resident Craigh McHugh on board delivering Balearic house beats.

Sunday Circus switch to a new night and a new venue, as they host their Red Room special at Saint Luke’s in the East End. Belfast’s Hammer joins resident Affi Koman, and usual suspects Tricky, Nowicki and Vilmos for a frighteningly exciting all-day feast of house and techno.

Up at the Glue Factory, the Jaws-themed Deep Trouble is anchored by Night of the Jaguar, “party music masters” General Ludd, and three-piece twee-thrash-punks Breakfast Muff.

At the Art School, Spook N Skank has reggae masters Mungo’s Hi-Fi Soundsystem, Chungo Bungo, Stalawa Sound and Breezak upstairs in the Assembly Hall.

Downstairs in the Vic, it’s a Handpicked Cassettes takeover, with Arm Wtchs Fngrs, Intergalatic Funk Smugglers, and Mr Tuner going back to back with Tuscan Whale over some homegrown house beats.
