Melting Pot 15th Birthday

Horse Meat Disco’s residency at The Eagle in south London is an institution. A fist-pumping throwback to the early days of disco, its regulars are a sizeable band of hardcore fans notorious for their commitment to pure hedonism. On Saturday, they’ll join forces with the equally legendary Melting Pot boys to celebrate the club’s 15th anniversary. Residents Andrew Pirie and Simon Cordiner have taken their night a long way since their first party at The Riverside Club in 2001. And the vintage disco, funk and house vibes – enhanced by the extreme audiophile approach taken to the soundsystem – mean that it’s more popular than ever. Whether you’re a disco nut or a hi-fi nerd, this is the one night this weekend you cannot miss.

Nerdy isn’t exactly a word you’d associate with the San Franciscan DJ crew Honey Soundsystem, but the fivesome have a similar obsessiveness when it comes to classic disco and high-energy house. The group’s decadent parties are legendary in their hometown: combining the intimacy – and sweatiness - of a private warehouse party with huge international guests. They bring this heady mix to the Berkeley Suite tomorrow night – this is disco for those who take it seriously.

• Melting Pot 15th Birthday, Saturday, The Admiral, 11pm – 3am, £12

• Honey Sound System, tomorrow, The Berkeley Suite, 11pm – 3am, £8

A Love from Outer Space

“I don’t see myself as a record collector, really,” said Andrew Weatherall in an interview with The Vinyl Factory last year. “I’ve been buying music for 40 years… after 40 years you suddenly wake up and go ‘oh, I appear to have a record collection.’”

You get the feeling he might be selling himself short a little. One of the biggest stars to emerge from the acid house revolution, Weatherall has carved out a niche career as a DJ, record producer, artist and raconteur. That collection is not something he has accumulated by accident, and its wide-reaching scope will be in evidence when he brings his regular night, A Love from Outer Space, to The Flying Duck on Saturday.

Expect to hear a weird and wonderful variety of whatever Weatherall feels like playing. “I’ve never lost that thing I had when I was 12 years old and inviting my mates round to my house,” he told The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis last week. “They’d all be copping off with girls and I’m going, ‘No, check out this B-side.’ I’ve never lost that slightly nerdy approach to wanting to share what I like.” Indeed - let’s hope he doesn’t lose it anytime soon.

• A Love from Outer Space, Saturday, The Flying Duck, 11pm – 3am, £8

Outburst

• Outburst with Mark Sherry, Saturday, SWG3, 9pm – 2am, £15

Numbers x Studio Barnhus

Another week, another hometown set from local tastemaker Jackmaster. This time, his Numbers crew are going toe-to-toe with Studio Barnhus, the Stockholm trio made up of Axel Boman, Petter Nordkvist and Kornél Kovács. Expect avante-garde techno and house from the Swedes, and the eclectic havoc that has become the trademark of Numbers sets everywhere.

• Numbers x Studio Barnhus, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £13

Edit Select

Last weekend, Scots producer Edit Select was working the room at Tresor, one of Berlin’s wildest warehouses. On Saturday, he takes the helm at the considerably smaller Stereo in a rare hometown set. His particular brand of techno is gritty, hypnotic and perfectly suited to Berlin’s connoisseurs. Stereo’s spare, concrete-walled basement is the perfect place to experience it here. Take this chance to see a techno heavyweight in a very intimate setting – it won’t come around too often.

• Edit Select, Saturday, Stereo, 11pm – 3am, £7

The Coral Official Aftershow

Back with their first new album in six years, Liverpool’s The Coral have ditched their acoustics in favour of a Krautrock-influenced sound. "We wanted to bring the rhythm to the forefront rather than the guitars," frontman James Skelly told Gigwise this week. “We wanted it to be more monotonous and driving and more space for the rhythm." One hopes tat their new avant-garde influences might come to the fore as they take to the Record Factory’s DJ booth for the official afterparty that follows their ABC gig on Saturday – if so, the former pool hall won’t know what’s hit it.

• The Coral Official Aftershow, Saturday, The Record Factory, £4
