WHEN Australian DJ Will Sparks comes to Glasgow – he always leaves with a sore head.

The 23-year-old admits he has embraced the city’s party scene which will no doubt come in handy for when he plays Glasgow’s o2 Academy on Saturday, April 2.

The Melbourne native, who has previously played dance music festival Coloursfest at Braehead arena, even joked that there are “plenty of parties” in Glasgow before boasting, “It's a dangerous time! I always leave with a sore head.

“One moment which stands out was the first time I played Coloursfest where I met DVBBS who are now close mates.

“Joel Fletcher was there and Martin Garrix.

“Martin and I, crashed Joel’s set crowd surfing together. DVBBS, Joel and I got so drunk, we found a shopping trolley backstage and ended up rolling us all packed in it onto the main stage

while Blasterjaxx were playing. What a time!”

Will is certainly more energetic than most of his dance music contemporaries which is perhaps why he is looking forward to coming back to Scotland.

With an on-stage persona that matches the crowd, his set at the o2 Academy is bound to be one that ravers remember.

He said: “The energy in Scotland is like no other if not the best in the world. The people of Scotland are genuine and passionate.

“I’ve created a solid crew there as well, industry heads I can honestly call my good friends.”

His love for the Scots perhaps has a lot to do with just how passionate his home crowd in Australia are about his music.

He said: “They love going hard. Australia reacts to un heard music. I couldn't be from somewhere that needs cheese.”

The producer DJ, who was propelled into the spotlight thanks to his remixes of global hits such as Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines and The Chainsmokers’ Selfie, is also looking forward to Scottish ravers’ belting out their infamous chant of “Here we go…” and he even admits he loves the “sweatiness” of the crowd in Glasgow.

Those energetic fans attending the show can expect new music, and a heavy and hard set from the DJ who is known for tracks When the Lights Go Out, Catch, This is What the Bounce is and Ah Yeah!

And if you loved what Will brought to the table before, you can expect “a lot” of new music in 2016.

He said: “I’m becoming a little versatile experimenting new things. I’m excited to share.”

The music star will no doubt take some inspiration from Canadian electronic duo DVBBS and Guatemalan DJ and producer Carnage, who he admires within the world of electronic dance music.

He said: “DVBBS and Carnage are two acts who grind so hard, get the job done and are reaping the rewards. A must see performance.”

With Will still at the start of his career, a big collaboration with an established artist is no doubt something the fans would like to see – but Will’s top choice of duet Is slightly off field.

For he would love to have rapper Notorious BIG on a track if he was still alive.

He added: “Other than Notorious BIG, I think someone like JAUZ could be cool! He killing it at the moment too.”

Aside from playing his music in Glasgow, the djing star will be travelling the world to showcase his music this year.

And while the bigger festivals such as Miami’s Ultra Music Festival or Tomorrowland in Belgium aren’t on the cards yet – he hasn’t ruled them out.

“I wish one day for those particular festivals. I’m more excited for the people that are going to have me. Especially festivals around Europe.”

Playing in dIfferent cities across the world doesn’t faze Will who admits he is a fitness fanatic and uses his work outs to cope with his busy schedule.

He said: “Working out. I’m obsessed!”

The buzz of a live performance that many DJs experience is like no other, so it can be difficult for them to find ways to unwind.

But for Will, “sleep” is the best way he can re-energise during his down time.

It is clear the Aussie star has a love of Scotland, and he is frank in saying it is one of his favourite places to play in the world.

He beamed when asked about his favourite place to play in the world, “Scotland...obviously. Other than that, I love playing everywhere, everywhere is different, and the fact I get to show so many different cities my sound, I don't feel like it’s getting repetitive.”
