We’re gearing for a remarkably busy weekend across the city, bookended by a pair of parties hosted by two of the country’s biggest clubbing brands. It all kicks off tonight, as the Ministry of Sound’s student wing ushers in Fresher’s Week with a lurid, neon-coloured extravaganza at SWG3.

Glasgow’s very own Greenman is the DJ tasked with the not-inconsiderable brief of making a warehouse full of students – mostly youngsters away from home for the first time – go ape. Luckily, Greenman has previous in that field – the versatile turntablist has been spinning at the Subbie’s I AM and Stay Fresh nights for years, and he’s a recent recruit to the Ministry of Sound’s Society roster. This enormous, highly-anticipated party is set to get messy in more ways than one, so prepare for a night of bold, brash antics and a banging soundtrack to match. It’s going to be chaos.

At the other end of the spectrum, the electronic music hub Resident Advisor branches out into the physical world with a Sub Club instalment of its RA In Residence series. This rich seam of parties is all about celebrating and throwing the spotlight on the clubs that keep their local scenes flourishing. It’s perhaps no surprise, then, that Jamaica Street’s house and techno temple has been handpicked to host Glasgow’s series. That rounds off the weekend quite nicely on Sunday, as Sasha – the UK’s original superstar DJ – takes to the famous club’s booth for the first time to deliver a masterclass in global, progressive house. He’s backed up by Hammer, who dispenses “betamaxed-out sleaze and attitude”. Whatever that entails, it sounds right up our street. This is going to be an “I was there” moment, for sure: if you can get your grubby mitts on a ticket, lucky you.

• Ministry of Sound Society Paint Party, tonight, SWG3, 10pm – 2am, £10

• RA in Residence with Sasha & Hammer, Sunday, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £15

The Psychedelic Forest Carnival

One of the highlights of the late summer clubbing calendar, the Psychedelic Forest Carnival takes place in the suitably-trippy surrounds of Ayrshire’s Kelburn Castle. With its enormous soundsystems and outdoor setting, this laid-back, blissed-out all-nighter recalls the original rural raves of the early ‘90s. This year, a staggering lineup of international artists means punters will be absolutely spoiled for choice. You can expect to hear blistering reggae vibes as local crew Mungo’s Hi-Fi go back-to-back with Brazil’s Junior Dread, UK Garage from East London’s Champion and MC Serious, and live German global bass as Symbiz take to the Viewpoint Stage. Elsewhere, heavyweight dub soundsystem Mighty Oak shake the Roots Dome, and Samedia Shebeen transport late-night party people to an imaginary-jungle-voodoo-den-cum-lost-township. Transcendent, in every way possible.

• The Psychedelic Forest Carnival, Saturday, Kelburn Castle, 7pm – 4am, £33 - £50.50

Concrete Fifth Anniversary Tour

‘Tis the season to celebrate more of the anniversaries of some of our favourite electronica institutions, it would seem. Tomorrow night, two labels from either side of la Manche are set to duke it out in a post-Brexit battle for our hearts and minds. French techno imprint Concrete and its London counterpart Hypercolour are taking over the Subbie and La Cheetah respectively – it’ll be a first show in Scotland for Parisians Francois X and Antigone, while over on Queen Street it’s Hypercolour head honcho Cedric Maison’s Glasgow debut. He’s joined by Londoner Matthew Herbert, who has practically become a resident in La Cheetah over the years, so it’s not all new and scary: but it’ll definitely be exciting.

The celebrations don’t stop there. In midweek, the Subbie’s I AM boys celebrate their ever-popular night turning six with free entry for everyone (as long as they’re there before half 11). “To have this kind of longevity for a night on a Tuesday… seems almost like a complete anomaly,” residents Beta and Kappa said. “It’s safe to say this is an idea that just shouldn’t work… exposing people to their first real clubbing experiences and catering for the techno gurus at the same time.” Perhaps it shouldn’t, but it works wonderfully: and that’s why we should be celebrating it. Here here!

• Concrete Fifth Anniversary Tour, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £12

• Ten Years of Hypercolour, tomorrow, La Cheetah, 11pm – 4am, £12

• Six Years of I AM, Tuesday, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £5/free before 11.30pm

Nite Tripper

Running the Forest Disco close in the psychedelia stakes, Freakender is a three-day affair at the Old Hairdressers showcasing the best new garage, psych and fuzz bands from around the globe. Berlin’s Wedding, LA rockers Feels and Liverpool’s Beach Skulls are the highlights, but the visceral noise of Spinning Coin and The Cosmic Dead mean that Glasgow is well-represented too. Afterwards, head to Broadcast, where Nite Tripper has DJs Holly Calder and Craig Reece spinning all of the above genres, all night, for free.

• Freakender, tomorrow – Sunday, The Old Hairdressers, 2pm – late, £15

• Nite Tripper, Saturday, Broadcast, 11pm – 3am, free
