DUTCH DJ Don Diablo admits he is a bit of a TV junkie when he is not spinning his top tunes.

The 36-year-old EDM star says the hit Netflix series Stranger Things is just one of the shows he has loved this year.

He beamed, “I like watching series like Stranger Things, Suits and The Walking Dead to give my brain a short holiday every now and then.”

His brain, however, will be in working mode when he takes to the decks at SWG3 for his Hexagon show on Saturday, November 12.

“This is my first ever headline show so I am very excited to come back in a big way,” he said.

He added: “Energy wise the Scottish fans are definitely in my top three favourite crowds in the world! Scottish fans always go in 100 per cent.”

Hailing from Coevorden in the Netherlands, Don Diablo, whose real name is Don Pepijn Schipper, started his career early by landing his first record deal at the tender age of 15.

On reflection, however, he says that starting in the industry so young has made him the artist he is today.

He said: “I made a lot of mistakes and a lot of people have taken advantage of me of the years but in the end that made me into the artist I am today, so I'd say: no regrets.”

It is safe to say having no regrets has given him a successful career including a number 15 ranking in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 list.

He, however, can appreciate the work of his contemporaries and what they do making Call On Me hitmaker Eric Prydz among his favourites.

He said: “Artists like Jamie XX, Porter Robinson, Eric Prydz, Disclosure, Paul Kalkbrenner and Stephan Bodzin all follow their instincts and make music that they are truly passionate about.”

His Scottish fans, however, are truly passionate about Don Diablo’s music and they can expect a set which includes big hits such as Starlight (You Could Be Mine).

He said: “I will be playing my biggest songs and remixes as well as a lot of new unreleased material that will be exclusive for this tour.

“I am also bringing two upcoming talents from my label, Madison Mars and King Arthur for additional support.”

The producer also hinted that he is working on a remix for one of the world’s biggest artists but he remained tight-lipped over who it is.

He said: “I am working on a full EP at the moment, as well as a remix for one of the biggest acts in the world and a remix for one of the biggest classics of all times. So pretty excited about what is to come.”

With a work ethic that seems to be non-stop, it is clear Don Diablo is passionate about what he does otherwise he wouldn’t be as successful as he is.

He says he is motivated by “the pure love for music itself,” before adding, “and the connection it makes with people from all over the planet without using any words.”

If he wasn’t making music, he says he would be a director but there is no doubt that charity would still play a big role in his life.

He was the first ambassador for Dance4Life, an international UN-supported action campaign to fight back against HIV and AIDS.

In his role, he has travelled to South Africa to visit several Dance4Life affiliated projects in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

It is this work that is an important part of his life as he explained, “Charity work is essential. When you get a lot you have to give back as well. It's as simple as that.

“I lost my dad to cancer a few years ago, so this has definitely put a lot of things into perspective for me.”

Consider 2016 has been in his words his biggest year so far, Don Diablo admits he is looking forward to what is next.

He said: “I will finally finish off my new EP, launch my new live show and my biggest new year's resolution is to get a bit more sleep next year!

“For Christmas, I want to do a few shows, still see my mom, family and friends in between and eat as much as I can.”
