SWG3 is embracing the darkness this weekend. It begins tonight, as the Scandinavian Trentemøller answers a question nobody asked: “what would it sound like if Joy Division went techno?”

The Dane’s most recent album, Fixion, is a product of his own personal industrial revolution. It’s a haunting listen: a record with a black heart that is by turns dark, aggressive, and bleak. There are also negatives, though. It wears you down – but in many ways it is the perfect music for these depressing times. For zeitgeist reasons alone, I recommend checking it out.

It’s followed up tomorrow by Pressure: Slam’s monthly techno night, which is an essential fixture on the clubbing calendar but never a particularly light-hearted occasion. It's residents return this month after missing the last outing, while Planetary Assault Systems weighs in with a live set.

The man behind the Death Starry moniker is UK veteran Luke Slater, who released Arc Angel, his third album under that alias, in September. At 21 songs and 96 minutes long it’s a right old slog, but give it a chance and its hypnotic beauty will worm its way into your head. It’s more melodic than regular Pressure-goers might be used to, so thankfully the Italian DJ Lucy is on hand to balance it out with his tough analogue sounds.

· Trentemøller, tonight, SWG3, 7pm – 11pm, £17.50

· Pressure with Luke Slater, tomorrow, SWG3, 10pm – 2am, £17

Blasterjaxx

“Physically and mentally I am not wired to be on the road,” said Blasterjaxx’s Idir Makhlaf with striking honesty as he announced his retirement from touring in 2015. He remains a part of the Dutch duo when they’re recording their studio albums, but their chaotic live shows are the work of his partner Thom Jongkind alone.

It matters little how many of them are on the stage, though. These are enormous, euphoric tunes that perfectly encapsulate the big room house style that the Dutch do so well. Get down to the Gorbals on Saturday and “put on your rave face,” as the men from The Hague advise on their 2015 hit Beautiful World.

· Blasterjaxx, Saturday, O2 Academy, 9pm – 3am, £24.50

Melting Pot

Funk, soul and disco fans are in for a busy weekend. It all kicks off tomorrow at La Cheetah, where the monthly night Ezup is throwing their second annual Soul Train party after last year’s roaring success. Then on Saturday, the city’s hippest Services Club hosts Blacktrackin’, a vinyl-only soul affair. Get there early then hit up the Admiral for Melting Pot, which has the Dutch duo Detroit Swindle spinning Motown, hip-hop and early house.

- Ezup Soul Train Party, tomorrow, La Cheetah, 11pm – 3am, £3/£5

- Blacktrackin’, Saturday, Pollok Ex-Servicemen’s Club, 8pm – 1am, £5

- Melting Pot with Detroit Swindle, Saturday, The Admiral, 11pm – 3am, £10

Overmono

Brothers Tom and Ed Russell are better known as their techno alter-egos Truss and Tessela, but their latest project sees them collaborating under the name Overmono. They recorded last year’s five-track EP Arla in a cottage in rural Wales close to where they grew up, and made their live debut at London’s LN:CC in October.

“Despite doing some live shows together and the fact that we’re brothers, we hadn’t ever really written music together and wanted to start something new,” the brothers said at the time. Their recent Water The Planets mix was a dizzying sprint through ambient soundscapes, jungle rhythms and the disorientating sound of deconstructed techno, so expect the same from promoter Headstrong’s first outing at the Subbie. Support comes from Animal Farm’s Quail and Turtle, and the stellar Perth duo Clouds, who are part of the Turbo Recordings stable.

· Overmono, tonight, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £10

Dappy

“If you’re talented, you’ll always be financially stable,” said the diminutive N-Dubz rapper Dappy back when rumours were rife about his impending bankruptcy. Which makes it all the more confusing that he now finds himself embroiled in this latest fiasco: an “exclusive” personal appearance at The Savoy. He will be meeting fans and spinning records at Sauchiehall Street’s most salubrious club on Saturday.

· Dappy, Saturday, The Savoy, 10.30pm – 3am, £10
