WELL, this is exciting.

We're barely into April and the first Clyde boat party of the spring is upon us.

Despite being a world away from the sun-drenched booze cruises of Croatia and Ibiza, Glasgow's very own floating house-fests make up for it with… well, just pure gallus-ness.

There will be many similar parties throughout the season, but this is a fine way to start.

The bill features two up and coming DJs who are - no exaggeration - Glasgow legends in the making. Jasper James is the Sub Club regular who was tipped by Jackmaster as one to watch in 2014, has had support from Skream on Radio 1 and whose gigs just keep getting bigger and better.

Barrientos is Glasgow Underground's Chilean-Scots prodigy: a fiercely intelligent, classically-trained studio genius who also makes some of the most blissful house coming out of Glasgow just now.

Do Anything You Wanna, his Pete Tong-endorsed new work with Illyus, and Los Suenos are the kind of jams that were made to be heard at a Café Mambo sunset, if not a murky Clyde one.

Back on dry land, the party decants to Hope Street's Make Do.

Boat party attendees get in cheaper to the Glaswegian leg of LA house producer Le Youth's European Tour, which also features Waifs and Strays, The Shimmy and Don't Drop.

l 2014 Opening Boat Party with Jasper James, Saturday, Riverside Museum, 6.30pm-11pm, £18/£20

l Afterparty with Le Youth, Saturday, Make Do, Hope Street, 11pm-3am, £10

Double fun

IT was 20 years ago yesterday - the ninth of April 1994 - that Subculture launched.

This weekend they kick start the double-decade celebrations proper, with a set from Chicago house hero Lil' Louis.

One of the most popular late '80s Chicago producers, his 1989 anthem French Kiss is, for many, the sound of those halcyon days. Along with the late Frankie Knuckles, the widely-renowned Godfather of House who passed away last week aged 59, he came to define the Chicago house sound.

A rare 4am finish makes this yet another unmissable Subculture night.

Before that though, tonight it's the Subbie launch of Re:Verb, which according to the somewhat sensational promotional material "provides an eclectic space where performers, musicians, embellishers, body-painters, remixers, DJs, dancers, poets and artists collaborate to create an unmitigated artistic experience."

l Re:Verb Birthday Rave, tonight, Sub Club, Jamaica Street, 11pm-3am, £5

l 20 Years of Subculture with Lil' Louis, Saturday, Sub Club, 11pm-4am, £10

Great Dane is a pedigree DJ

DANISH producer Kölsch returns to Glasgow on Saturday for an intimate set at Saint Judes.

His 2013 album, 1977, plays with a variety of styles - piano-led house on Der Alte, stadium-ready EDM on Goldfisch, woozy synths on Wasserschutz - and is well worth a listen: it's the kind of dance record that even non-dance fans might appreciate. Expect big melodies, some spine-tingling moments and no shortage of bangers, either.

l Kölsch, Saturday, Saint Judes, Bath Street, 11pm-3am, £10
