Sub Club Soundsystem

YOU might have forgotten, thanks to the polar vortex sweeping across Glasgow this week, that another long weekend of bank holiday chaos is upon us.

That means a flurry of parties that are a lot bigger-than-your-average: none more so than the Sub Club Soundsystem.

It might be on a smaller scale than next month's forthcoming Riverside Festival, but it boasts an incredible lineup featuring - as you might expect - some grandstand names from the underground dance world.

The only remaining tickets (at the time of writing) are for Saturday, when Chicago house producer Derrick Carter goes all disco don, bringing some serious Studio 54 vibes to the Barras' Art and Design Centre.

He's supported by Belfast's Bicep - no stranger to an elastic bassline himself - and Frankfurter Gerd Janson, who's a resident at Berghain, collaborates with Prins Thomas and spearheads the label Running Back Records.

Throw in Subbie legends Harri and Domenic, Telford and Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and you begin to wonder why it isn't completely sold out already.

It might have something to do with Sunday's headliner having a weekend's worth of talent alone: it's an unholy alliance of four DJs who could sell out the venue single-handed.

A combination of Jackmaster (a local legend), Eats Everything (a Bristol bass producer with a Midas touch), Skream (the dubstep originator from London) and Seth Troxler (often described as one of the biggest DJs in the world right now) combine to form.

JESuS is the name of their project; almost predictably, several commentators described their recent Coachella Festival appearance as something close to a religious appearance.

We don't know exactly what it's going to sound like, but with four of the most exciting DJs around sharing one stage, it's going to be unmissable.

It doesn't end there, either: the afterparties at the Subbie feature Bicep on Saturday and JESuS on Sunday until the wee hours.

Thank goodness, then, that we've all got Monday off.

Pressure

IT'S also shaping up to be an epic weekend at The Arches.

Tomorrow night, Pressure hosts its last party before taking a break for summer, with techno titan Richie Hawtin headlining.

He'll be bringing in tow a selection of acts from his M-Nus Records label, with Marc Houle playing live and Berlin-based Italian Fabio Florido.

In Room Two, German label Dystopian takes over, with Rødhåd, Alex.Do and Slam ticking the turntables.

On Saturday, clubbing mega-brand Colours host an enormous bank holiday blowout with Dutch electro-house giants Bingo Players and La Fuente, the brilliantly-named Australian house DJ Timmy Trumpet, and Dutch hardstyle producer Headhunterz.

Platform 18

GIVEN the conditions outside at this exact moment, the prospect of a street rave is about as appealing as reading, seeing or hearing anything to do with Katie Hopkins.

Let's hope it clears and warms up before Saturday, then, because Platform 18's parties are always one of the highlights of the summer.

Residents Ivan Kutz, Niz, Forbes and Dave Scott are on hand all day long to dish out the deep house and techno vibes.

Afterwards, you could do worse than heading to La Cheetah, where the Let's Go Back crew host a disco special with Al Kent.

And if you're in the market for really going for it, there's a Let's Go Back all day session in McChuill's on Sunday with the tireless Harri.

Best of all, it's completely free - but I can't promise you won't be paying for it later.
