IT'S the first big weekend of the summer, and that means that all the party action heads out of the city and onto festival sites across the country.

As the world's No 1 DJ - Dutch megastar Hardwell - tears it up at Ingleston, a much more intimate but no less wild party takes place in the gorgeous grounds of Kelburn Castle.

Its annual Garden Party gets under way tomorrow, with a focus, as ever, on bass-heavy tunes from forward-thinking producers and DJs.

Headlining the Sneaky Pete's-curated Viewpoint Stage tomorrow night is beatmaker Melé, with his frequent collaborator Slick Don on the mic. The more groove-inclined might want to seek out the Dandy Lion Café, which has funk and soul from DJs Johnny Cashback and Andy Taylor.

Highlights of the weekend include the globetrotting Glaswegian MC Soom T's hookup with Berlin-based DJ JStar, raucous, ridiculous funk jams from Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5, and a Saturday night techno and dub session on the Tall Trees stage with NoFACE and Samson Sounds leading the line.

Surgeon sounds

IN tomorrow's latest Subbie takeover, London-based urban station Rinse FM, one of techno's smoothest operators, commandeers the booth from start to finish.

Surgeon, one of the station's most beloved DJs, is bringing his driving, funky techno north for the night: with his stated aim being to "connect my Rinse FM show to the club environment… I want to include some of the musical elements that are unique to the radio show."

Don't expect any classics, mind you. "There's so much great new music that I want to share, that there's no time for older tunes," he says.

Consistently one of the most forward-thinking DJs in the country, this is one that's not to be missed.

l Rinse Glasgow with Surgeon, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm-3am, £10

Magic number

SCORE a night of banging tunes and help out a good cause all at once by doing your weekend raving at Love Electro's third anniversary bash on Saturday.

A queue of over 21 fine local selectors are lined up to play, including headliner Paul Zitkus, hardstyle kingpin Mark McVey, and the frankly misleading Jazz Man (surprise: he doesn't play any jazz).

With things kicking off early and the inevitable Courtyard pre-party, this could get messy pretty quickly: just the way we like it.

l Love Electro 3rd Birthday with Paul Zitkus, Saturday, 69 Below, 7pm -3am, £tbc

It's a Massacre

IF you haven't seen the hilarious and heartbreaking documentary Dig!, make sure you catch it before attending this archetypal rock and roll aftershow.

The film tracks the friendship and fall-outs between The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe and The Dandy Warhol's Courtney Taylor-Taylor, who used to be pals until the latter got huge and left their old friends languishing in the underground.

Now a cult band of enormous proportions, this exclusive DJ set by Newcombe himself promises to provide an outstanding if messy and noisy postscript to the band's ABC gig.
