AH, the weekend before Hallowe'en - traditionally a time to rest up and conserve energy before the large-scale antics are unleashed on the last day of the month.

That's not the plan this year, it would seem: The Arches has a typically huge couple of days ahead courtesy of two dynamic - and very different - duos.

The craziness kicks off tomorrow night with the aptly-named Blasterjaxx.

The hard dance duo from The Hague, made up of Thom Jongkind and Idir Makhlaf, are evidence that Amsterdam doesn't have a monopoly on the Netherland's prodigious dance output.

Just this weekend they were voted in at number 13 on DJ Mag's prestigious annual Top 100 list, rising 58 places from last year's poll, so in all likelihood they're still celebrating.

Incidentally, they're not even in the top five Dutch DJs on the list - six of the top 12 spots are taken up by producers from the Low Countries.

If there was any lingering doubt that Holland is the current world capital of big, dumb house sound that is dominating clubs across the world, consider it gone.

Saturday night sees Chase and Status taking over the venue for a soundsystem-destroying DJ set. The London duo, who spent the summer on a mammoth 16-week run at Ibizan enormo-club Amnesia, are one of the biggest British dance names and are a safe bet to deliver an exhilarating, bass-heavy night to remember. They're joined on stage by longtime collaborator MC Rage, and support comes from the rising drum and bass DJ Dimension.

Rustie's special

PLAYING his first hometown show since 2011, Glaswegian international sensation Rustie has ramped up the audio-visual aspect of his dancefloor-slaying live show for this extra-special night at the Art School.

Never one to do things subtly, his maximalist dance music - all huge synthetic sounds, gigantic drops and video game noises - can only be enhanced by the wide-eyed craziness that big production can bring.

If the Art School kicks off even half as much as things did when he slayed Amsterdam's Paradiso last weekend (it totally will), it's going to be absolutely insane.

If you can, grab the last couple of tickets while they're still available.

What a State

LIKE the pioneering electronic house duo LFO, whose founding member Mark Bell died last week at the age of 43, 808 State were instrumental in taking the out-of-control early 90s rave sound and turning it into something more sophisticated.

The Madchester legends are celebrating 25 years since the release of their seminal single Pacific State by bringing their banging live show to Glasgow on Saturday, with a free afterparty for ticket holders until the wee hours.

Support comes from the gang who run La Cheetah's Let's Go Back… night - they'll have the likes of Bosco and Rob Mason spinning straight down the line, 4/4 techno all night long.

l 808 State, Saturday, O2 ABC, 7pm-3am, £20
