LAST weekend, it seemed like the city of Glasgow was simultaneously in crisis and party mode.

Tens of thousands of us - hipsters, ravers, lad rockers and pop fans alike - came together at the Big Weekend: some trying to forget the awful images of the Mackintosh Building in flames, some trying not to think about the prospect of UKIP winning seats north of the Border, a few still digesting the news about Neil Lennon…

And then there was the rain, which sparked panic and threatened to streak the fake-tanned legs and faces of thousands of not-very-sensibly-dressed girls.

The dust from all of this has barely settled, but with Coloursfest on the horizon we're set for another festival of noise and hysteria: this time at Braehead's cavernous arena.

Some of the biggest names in commercial dance are lined up for this latest riverside rammy: Dutch names like brotherly duo Showtek, 18-year-old Martin Garrix, and Bingo Players.

Elsewhere there's roofraisers like Jack Eye Jones, hardcore nutters like Chimera, and of course the institution that is George Bowie.

It wouldn't be Coloursfest without him, would it?

n Coloursfest, Saturday, Braehead Arena, 5pm-4am, £44.50

Glove story

Israeli techno DJ Guy Gerber brings his Wisdom of the Glove party to The Arches this weekend, with Barcelona-based Martin Buttrich in support. There's also warm-up vibes from New York art school duo Bob Moses, and Sunday Circus resident Tricky.

n Wisdom of the Glove with Guy Gerber, Saturday, The Arches, 10pm-3am, £10

Bella house

There are two main reasons to hit up Platform 18's Street Party, which kicks off almost unreasonably early at two o'clock on Saturday.

For starters, it'll be the only time you'll have a reason to get off the Subway at West Street. This deserted industrial space between Bridge Street and Shields Road has almost nothing to offer - no pubs, no residences nearby, no nothing.

Novelty factor aside, there's also outstanding deep house from Bella Sarris, the Australian Richie Hawtin protégée, Berliner Dewalta, and Platform 18 resident Ivan Kutz.

n Platform 18 Street Party, Saturday, West Street Subway Station, 2pm-10pm, £13

n Afterparty, Saturday, Saint Judes, 11pm-3am

Groovy guy

If Holland is leading the way in big, dumb EDM tunes, Norway's speciality right now seems to be disco-influenced producers making out-there, deeply groovy jams.

After Todd Terje's storming set at the Barras on Sunday, it's the turn of Prins Thomas to dominate La Cheetah's sweltering basement with his trippy, psychedelic proto-Kraut beats.

In case that means nothing to you, he's really, really good: you should go.

If it doesn't sound chill enough, there's always veteran ambient megastars The Orb at Audio on Saturday.

Marking 25 years since they pretty much invented the ambient sound, this is an amazing chance to see a truly legendary duo in an intimate setting: good luck getting a ticket, though.

n Prins Thomas, Saturday, La Cheetah, 11pm-4am, £10

n The Orb, Saturday, Audio, 9pm-late, sold out
