WHEN the rave historians look back to 2014, they will remember it as the year that "Where's eh Slam Tent mate?" became Scotland's new national greeting.

It is likely to be the most commonly-uttered phrase at this weekend's T in the Park, thanks to the widespread popularity of Glaswegian comedian Brian "Limmy" Limond and his prolific Twitter and Vine output.

In its last year at Balado, the bookers have continued to play it safe, securing the same headliners as just about every other UK festival.

The Slam Tent alone, though, has as strong a line-up as any dance fest you could name.

Over the weekend you'll find techno titans Len Faki, Carl Craig and Dave Clarke, modern beatmakers such as Skream and Factory Floor, and house purists like Levon Vincent, Sven Vath and Julio Bashmore.

On the Radio 1 Stage, EDM rules with Steve Angello, Alesso (Friday) and Disclosure (Sunday) headlining, while Rudimental and Calvin Harris appear on the Main Stage.

Scottish talent also gets a look-in, with local hero Jackmaster bringing the bangers to the Slam Tent on Friday alongside Perth techno merchants Clouds.

You'll also find Subculture's Harri and Dom, Mia Dora, XY Glasgow and Dixon Avenue Basement Jams cropping up over the weekend.

That would, of course, involve leaving the Slam Tent… but, then again, you might not find it in the first place.

Join the Parrish

BEST known as one of Detroit techno's leading lights, Theo Parrish plays his first Scottish gig on Wednesday at The Art School - one of only three UK dates on this tour.

Backed by a four-piece band, it promises to be totally different to his last appearance in Glasgow, when he played a stunning four-hour techno set in La Cheetah.

Featuring soul musician Amp Fiddler on keys and Parrish himself in charge of beats, it'll be an intriguing change of pace from a well-loved dance figure.

The afterparty, also at The Art School, has a set from Optimo Music's WHILST. An interesting night all round.

Shh! It's a secret...

WE don't know much about Pop Up (no-one does, I don't think), but tonight sees the opening of their temporary space on Bath Street.

Promising craft beers, cocktails and hard liquor in a unique setting, its launch is shrouded in secrecy - a bit like all the best and buzziest venues around.

It's unlikely you'll get in unless you're on the guestlist, but those who are will be able to sip tequila, munch on tacos and get down to sets from Stay Fresh's Josh Barr and Ray Vose of Octaves. The rest of us, unfortunately, will just have to wait.
