Bloc's brilliance lies in its versatility.

We were witness to the elegant, acoustic folk night Glasgow Slow Club (every Monday) and some of the most raucous, debauched rock and roll scenes imaginable.

That, of course, was the infamous night a couple of weekends ago when Glasgow-based punk upstarts PAWS and established US indie rockers We Are Scientists - tourmates and genuine BFFs - tore up this tiny Bath Street pub.

A secret gig that wasn't particularly well-kept, this was possibly the biggest thing in indie Glasgow since Sleazy's opened.

It was a bigger deal than Frightened Rabbit front- man Scott Hutchison's acoustic gig here a couple of years back. It was a MUCH bigger deal than Primal Scream's appearance at the Poetry Club last year.

The buzz around the night could only be compared to Prince's secret show at The Garage in 1995.

It's possible that people will still be talking about this in 20 years - especially if PAWS continue their current upward trajectory.

They brought bits of the ceiling down, covered Weezer in an unforgettable supergroup performance, and generally caused chaos. And it couldn't have happened anywhere other than Bloc.
