THE Liquor Store popup blazed into being just a few short weeks ago with a launch party that was shrouded in mystery.

The address was kept secret until a few hours before it all kicked off. Only those who were invited were allowed in.

Rumours spread about a disused car park location, then a back alley bar, before the details became almost disappointingly clear.

It's just the bar above Saint Judes.

That's not to say it isn't good and all, but I think we all expected the location to be a little bit more, exotic? Grungy? Repurposed?

Nevertheless, the operation has been a roaring success.

Launched just in time for the Commonwealth Games' tourist invasion, it has captured our collective imagination with cheap frozen cocktails, fantastic Mexican street food and some of the best burgers around - including a somewhat perverse creation involving a Krispy Kreme donut in place of a bun. It's also been a fantastically handy pre-club location for the many excellent nights downstairs in Saint Judes.

It borrows its vibe from the many Shoreditch pop-ups that have come and gone over the years: it's as laid-back as you'd expect, with house grooves bubbling in the background and a fashionably stark interior.

By all accounts, it's only going to be around for another week or two, so if you haven't experienced it yet then fill your boots.

Despite the abundance of surrounding boozers - among them the returning Bar Bloc and the always-entertaining Flat 0/1 - the romance attached to such a fleeting venture means that perhaps we'll miss it a little when its gone.
