THE first Glasgow Open House Art Festival launches tonight - taking over Renfield Lane in the process - with a fundraising party packed with bands, DJs and art installations.

It kicks off in The Old Hairdressers at 8pm with the likes of "misunderstood pop" merchants Peter, before shifting across the cobbles and downstairs to Stereo's basement at 11.

Here, rich electronica from Jon Phonics and the diverse record collections of Sam, from local collective Vitamins, and Fielding Hope keep the party going until 3am.

All the night's proceeds go towards helping the festival support artists in the city, so paying in basically makes you the next Charles Saatchi, or something.

Super Africaine

ACROSS Africa, where it's estimated that only 13.5% of people have internet access, the modes of sharing music that we enjoy simply don't apply.

Instead, music spreads through mobile phones and mix cassettes: Bluetooth, rather than Soundcloud or even Kazaa, facilitating the easy sharing of new tunes.

It means that our access to a vast amount of fascinating and exotic music - genres like Sahara house, Afro R&B and desert blues - is limited to what has been collected and brought back by the intrepid musical travellers who go over in search of it.

Bloggers like Sahelsounds, Awesome Tapes From Africa, the DJ who specialises in obscure African music, and Glasgow's increasing African population have sparked a boom in the availability of African music, and Super Africaine is one of the many brilliant results.

Kicking off early, DJ Afrodeesia spins seriously danceable tunes from Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia and beyond: and it's all free.

l Super Africaine, Saturday, CCA, 8pm-late, free.

Subbie sounds

THE Subbie kickstarts another major weekend tonight as those omnipresent We Own tykes take over, bringing their sun-bleached vibes with them.

Paisley-based Barrientos headlines: his blissful, Balearic-tinged house has been garnering huge attention lately, and quite rightly so.

With repeated plays on Radio 1 and Glasgow Underground's backing, at the moment the sky is the limit for this hugely talented producer.

Tomorrow night, London pirate radio station-turned-legit Rinse FM brings the much-loved Loefah to the same venue on one of its regular jaunts around the country.

A four-hour set from the Londoner should be enough to satisfy all but his most demented fans, while on Tuesday the Night Slugs boss James Connolly drops by to play some songs from his latest EP, Dance System.

l We Own Glasgow: Refreshers Party with Barrientos, tonight, Sub Club, 11pm-3am, £5.

l Loefah: All Night Long, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm-3am, £10.

l L-Vis 1990 presents Dance System, Tuesday, Sub Club, 11pm-3am, £5.
