IT'S a weekend for celebrating institutions:

clubs, bars and individuals that have worked their way into the fabric of the city's nightlife and refused to budge.

Now, before you point out that we've spent an entire year of celebrating Subculture's second decade, I don't want to hear it.

This is the summer's only chance to get nautical with the legendary Harri and Domenic so you'd better take it.

They're setting sail from the Science Centre on Saturday at seven, with the fantastic Finn Lil' Tony and Subbie favourite Telford in support.

Back on dry land, everyone gets bussed back to Jamaica Street, where the full crew will continue the fun.

Bloc booking

IN indie circles, Bath Street's Bloc is up there with the untouchables that you daren't speak ill of.

Its recent closure has left tattooed and bearded men wandering the streets in despair, but now the long-awaited refurb is complete - meaning we can all get back to the serious business of gorging on Irn-Bru pulled pork, drinking gallons of beer and headbanging until we vomit.

Mogwai main man Stuart Braithwaite is the guest DJ at tomorrow's free reopening party: I'd say prepare for obscure Kraut and electronica mixed with some ear-pummeling noise for good measure.

Tonight, just a little further up Bath Street, there's another chance to dance all night for free at the ever-popular Flat 0/1.

It has Edinburgh's Animal Hospital heading west for a long-overdue techno jam, with 7AM residents Brink and Loui pumping out deep house grooves in support.

n Bloc Reopening Party, tomorrow, Bloc, 11pm - 3am, free

n Animal Hospital and Brink, tonight, Flat 0/1, 11pm - 3am, free

Lead the Way

THE name tells you everything you need to know about Let's Go Back. Way Back.

Purveyors of classic UK hip-hop and rave tunes, they're celebrating 14 years in existence with an all-day party that is not for the faint of heart. It kicks off in McChuills at 4pm with residents Rob Mason and Bosco warming up for the Happy Mondays Tour DJ, Vince Vega.

Afterwards, it's on to La Cheetah where Manchester's MC Tunes and his soundsystem are on hand to further batter ear drums and brain cells with proper banging old school classics.

For something a little groovier, try Supermax's 7th Birthday at the Berkeley Suite. It promises '70s New York disco vibes in a sultry setting, with the renowned Billy Woods spinning vinyl through a world-class audio setup.

n Let's Go Back. Way Back 14th Birthday, Saturday, McChuills (4pm - 11pm) & La Cheetah (11pm - 3am), 4pm - 3am, free/£7

n Supermax 7th Birthday, Saturday, The Berkeley Suite, 11pm - 3am, £6

Psyched up

AN altogether different all-dayer also taking place on Saturday is the Glasgow Psych Fest.

Based at the 13th Note, it brings together drone diggers, freakbeat fanboys and acid aficionados for a full lineup of noisy, trippy bands: culminating in this late-night freakout at Stereo on Saturday.

Flore de Hoog and special guests provide the records, while Halfrican, Woven Tents, Eagles Gift and Velvet Morning play live.

n Glasgow Psych Fest on Mars, Saturday, Stereo, 11pm - 3am, £10 (full weekend ticket)
