THE most momentous day in modern Scottish history is finally upon us.

At last - after years of relentless campaigning, scaremongering, spinning, humming and hawing, introspection, arguing, demonstrating and decision making - today is our chance to make politcal history.

Should the Yes Scotland camp, buoyed by their recent surge in the polls, triumph, the celebrations will be unprecedented - a public outpouring of collective joy not seen since Ikechi Anya stuck it past Manuel Neuer the other weekend.

It's hard to picture the No camp celebrating along the same lines.

So what to do after casting that historic ballot - for many people their first and only foray into the democratic process?

I'd suggest remaining politically active and heading down to The Arches, where the doors open for their unique Political Party just as the polls close at 10pm.

Part of the venue's Referendum Festival, it has Glaswegian post-electro outfit Errors providing the soundtrack from the DJ booth in a specially- commissioned audio-visual performance.

Andy Kelly, of The Phantom Band, Carla Easton, of Teencanteen, and Eugene Kelly, of indie rockers The Vaselines, will play acoustic sets, and there promises to be an abundance of stand-up, performance art and spoken word, too.

Of course, the incoming results will make for riveting viewing alone.

Also hosting a special referendum-based party is the Sub Club, where charitable club night Philanthro-beats requests you leave your opnions at the door to enjoy sets from Optimo's JD Twitch and Subculture legend Harri.

They'll also be launching a new media project, which aims to discuss how clubbing in Scotland can move forward - regardless of the referendum result - given the recent drug deaths that have occurred across the country.

It's always more than just a dance with these guys, so it's worthwhile heading to that, too.

And tomorrow morning, free and open to all regardless of political or clubbing preference, The Arches invites you to its hangover-easing What Now? Brunch, where there might or might not be Champagne corks popping.

What's guaranteed is that there will be bacon rolls, so I'm sold.

On Saturday, when the situation becomes clearer, it might be time to get away from it all. If so, join the team behind the Art School's Wednesday party, Night of the Jaguar, at its secret outdoor party and prepare for a proper all-day session.

You can find out the location through their Facebook: and with DJs like the veteran Hush, Afroholic Ghana Soundz and Sleazy's So Weit So Gut, it's worth seeking out. It's BYOB so it's a cheap one, too.

If anyone offers you a ticket, you should definitely say Yes.
