IN an industry where most interviews are about as entertaining as a software engineering textbook, Seth Troxler is a ray of sunshine.

The Detroit DJ is notorious for his outspoken interviews.

At last year's Coachella he bemoaned the current state of dance music, telling Rolling Stone: "I would really prefer if things don't go the way of Avicii and these guys pressing play and thinking that's music… things were really good, money got involved, and then you have this pay-to-play system."

It helps Troxler's cause that he's actually amazing at creating psychedelic techno grooves.

His hypnotic sets are laced with rhythmic patterns that evolve and build to an almost spritual experience: this will be like no other gig at the Subbie, or anywhere else, this year.

Elsewhere, tomorrow night independent clothing label Pray For Aliens hosts an end of exam season session with local boy Barrientos.

Recently featured as one of Pete Tong's Future Stars on Radio 1 and - according to rumours - preparing to take on a certain cosmos-titled club on a certain Balearic island this summer, this maker of lush, sun-bleached beats is looking unstoppable at the minute.

l Sensu with Seth Troxler, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm - 3am, £20

l Pray For Aliens with Barrientos, tomorrow, Keller Club, 11pm - 3am, £5/students £2

LAW time at Milk

ROCK thrills aplenty at the ever-popular Milk, this month celebrating its third year in existence.

As always, their special guests are a diverse and loud lot: LAW, aka solo artist Lauren Holt, brings her off-kilter, reggae-fused pop through from Edinburgh, with vibey, synth-heavy Glaswegians Conquering Animal Sound also on the bill

Headlining are Alarm Bells. Made up of ex-Dananananaykroyd members, their weird, angular riffs are guaranteed to leave the place in a complete state: not that they'd have it any other way, of course.

That's not until Wednesday, but before that get to The Flying Duck for Saturday's Selected Service.

It's an entire night dedicated to the music of Rough Trade, who have been putting out some of the world's finest indie and punk records since 1978.

Bands like The Strokes, Belle and Sebastian and Jonathan Richman have worked with the legendary label, so DJs John McKeown and Sci-Fi Steve (of 1990s/The Yummy Fur and Bis respectively) will have a pile of classic tunes to get through.

l Milk 3rd Birthday, Wednesday,

Flat 0/1, 9pm - 3am, £4

l Selected Service: Rough Trade, Saturday, The Flying Duck, 11pm - 3am, £5

Rave up in Trench

THE pub formerly known as Capitol and The Art School's temporary home hosts the return of Trench: a free, all-day rave-up on Saturday.

Formerly a Halt Bar Friday night session, it morphed into a Sunday all-dayer before the bar's neighbours had it shut down in May 2012.

Quite what the residents of the Beresford Building will have to say about it remains to be seen, but I'm sure the residents from Animal Farm, Bigfoot's and Substanz will manage to get them onside before long.

l Trench, Saturday, The Beresford Lounge, 4pm - midnight, free
