Brit-winning singer Sam Smith has dropped the biggest hint yet that he could be recording the theme tune to James Bond's new film Spectre - by posting a photo of a ring emblazoned with the organisation's logo.

The 23-year-old star shared an image of the ring on his finger, featuring the symbol of an octopus with blade-like tentacles, which is associated with the fictional terrorist organisation in the 007 universe.

While the In The Lonely Hour singer left the picture uncaptioned, fans were quick to speculate about his involvement with the Spectre theme song.

The singer's clue comes days after he denied he would be joining the ranks of Adele, Tina Turner, Madonna and Shirley Bassey by recording a Bond theme.

He told BBC Radio 2 about his busy schedule, saying: "That's not me. That's definitely not me.

"I've still got loads to do, I've got an Australia tour, but I kind of finish in December which is great, it gives me a chance to be in London, be in my home and go out with my friends."

Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith and Lana Del Rey have also been linked to the Spectre theme song, although Sheeran claimed he was "too wet" for the gig.

The Thinking Out Loud singer also said Smith would be the perfect choice: "I think Sam Smith would be perfect suited up with his strong voice."

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as the Secret Service agent, alongside Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes and Rory Kinnear, and newcomers Andrew Scott, Christoph Waltz, Dave Bautista and Bond girls Monica Bellucci, Lea Seydoux and Stephanie Sigman.

Sam Mendes will direct Spectre, the 24th Bond film, which will open in UK cinemas on October 26.
