JIMMY Vee is to play Star Wars favourite R2-D2 in Star Wars: Episode VIII.
The Harthill actor has reportedly already shot scenes with Luke Skywalker star Mark Hamill after taking over the role immortalised by Kenny Baker, who has played the robot since the first film in 1977.
The 3ft 8ins actor from Lanarkshire is a regular in Dr Who and has appeared as a goblin in Harry Potter.
Sources said Kenny, who is 81, is "not as fit as he used to be."
They said Jimmy was almost exactly the same height as Kenny, an essential requirement for fitting in the costume.
They were eager to have him on board for Episode VII but he was committed elsewhere.
Jimmy said he was unable to confirm or deny the reports.
