It was the toast of the Scottish Baftas and now The Legen of Barney Thomson is heading to America.

Robert Carlyle confirmed that the film, which was shot in Glasgow, will get a US release after being picked up by film distributor Gravitas Ventures.

Carlyle tweeted: "Big thanks to @GravitasVOD for giving 'Barney' its US release."

The comedy crime thriller, which was Robert Carlyle's directorial debut, is based on the first book in Douglas Lindsay's Barbershop Seven series. It stars Carlyle as barber Barney Thomson, Emma Thompson as his mother Cemoline and Ray Winstone as detective Holdall.

It won two awards at the Scottish Baftas this month, picking up Best Film and Best Actress for Emma Thompson.
