The cast of Zoolander 2 have posed for a picture using the longest selfie stick ever made.

But the endeavour, during the film’s premiere in London on Thursday night, turned out to be a bit of a damp squib.

The shot, snapped by Ben Stiller, is a raggle-taggle mess of squinty faces, people looking in the wrong direction, and way too much of Leicester Square’s grotty pavement.

Yes Stiller, you broke a world record – but at what cost?

If you look closely, you can just make out the film’s stars Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Penelope Cruz and writer Justin Theroux. Somehow Myleene Klass also made the front row too.

To be fair to Stiller, a video of him taking the shot shows he was using perhaps the bendiest stick in the world – particularly unhelpful during windy conditions.

Ellen DeGeneres broke the internet with her 2014 Oscars selfie that featured A-listers Brad and Ange, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Lupita Nyong’o and Meryl Streep, among others.

Forget Blue Steel, Karlie Kloss pulled together the supermodel dream team of Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid in a candid snap celebrating Taylor Swift’s squad at her Hyde Park gig last year.

Take notes from Delevingne for your co-star selfies, as she proved with this excellent Suicide Squad shot that includes Will Smith and Margot Robbie among the cast and crew.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini proved it always helps to make someone look really unflattering if you want attention for your shot. She reposted Rita Ora’s picture of the X Factor judging panel, adding: “This is by far the best Simon Cowell photograph of all time.”

Amy Schumer highlighted the fun factor with her all-ladies pyramid pic that had none other than Jennifer Lawrence at the top.
