Finding Dory has become the highest-grossing animated debut of all time.
Pixar’s sequel to 2003′s Finding Nemo – featuring the voice of Ellen DeGeneres as the forgetful blue fish – has far-surpassed its already ocean-sized expectations to take in $136.2 million (£94.8m) in North American cinemas.
The 2007 film Shrek The Third was the previous record holder, with a $121.6 million (£84.6m) debut.
Finding Dory is also now the second largest June opening of all time.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this day. #FindingDory is in theaters. Go see it. If you can’t go today, there’s always another way.

Elsewhere at the box office, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson’s buddy comedy Central Intelligence also had a relatively muscular weekend, taking second place with $34.5 million (£24m).
