Matt Damon has said he would consider swapping the Bourne franchise for the superhero world of Marvel or DC if friend Ben Affleck directed him.

Ben has just starred as Batman in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and Matt laughed at the idea he could play sidekick Robin to best friend Ben’s Caped Crusader.

But he admitted that he would say yes to a superhero role if Ben could be persuaded to get behind the camera.

Speaking at the premiere of Jason Bourne, he said: “I’d consider anything with the right director, but I can’t imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they’re all taken at this moment.”

He continued: “If he (Ben) was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute. I’d love to work with Ben.

“The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it, so until he’s willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we’re not going to get on with it.”

His co-star Julia Stiles backed Matt as director material himself, saying she would love to work with him taking the other side of the camera.

Matt distanced himself from the suggestion he could pick up the 007 franchise from previous director Sam Mendes.

“I don’t think anyone from outside the UK should touch that,” he said.

He confessed that the tough stunts required for Bourne had already taken their toll on his 45-year-old body, despite spending a year on a strict training and diet regime to get back into shape.

He said: “Everything is tougher at 45, just getting into shape is a much more difficult proposition. I started these when I was 29, it was so much easier.”

Jason Bourne is in UK cinemas from July 27.
