In a statement, she told the Hollywood Reporter she was excited to be “finally bringing Griselda’s story to life”, explaining: “I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years.”

She expressed her excitement on Twitter, writing: “Here we gooo…” while Dwayne Johnson – aka The Rock – chimed in: “Can’t wait to see @JLo take this role on. Blanco’s life was extremely hard core.”

Griselda became a notorious drug lord who revolutionised the US drug trade in the 70s and 80s, before her arrest in 1985.

She was later freed, deported to Colombia and killed in 2012 in a drive-by shooting.

Jennifer, 47, has put her focus on acting this year, starring in US drama Shades Of Blue.
