Jonah Hill has revealed he was admitted to hospital because of the amount of fake cocaine he snorted for his role in The Wolf Of Wall Street.

The American actor said he contracted bronchitis due to the volume of vitamin powder he inhaled while making the 2013 movie.

Jonah, 32, starred as hard-partying stockbroker Donnie Azoff in the film about the life of fraudulent trader Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Appearing on US talk show Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons, Jonah said: “I did so much fake cocaine in Wolf Of Wall Street I got bronchitis for three weeks. I had to be hospitalised.

“It’s vitamin powder but it doesn’t matter because if you ingest that much matter into your lungs, you will get very sick.

“We were literally doing fake coke for, like, seven months, every day. I never had more vitamin D in my entire life; I could have lifted a car over my f***ing head.”

Jonah plays another drug abuser, real life arms dealer Efraim Diveroli, in the upcoming movie War Dogs.

The film is inspired by the true story of Diveroli and David Packouz who secured a 300-million dollar arms contract with the US government in their early twenties during the war in Afghanistan.

They later pleaded guilty to charges linked to a fraud investigation into the contract.

In an interview with the Press Association, Jonah said he respected that the two men “accomplished what they wanted to accomplish”.

“Admiration isn’t the right world,” the two-time Oscar nominee said.

“There’s something exciting about people who are looking for the loophole.

“There’s an attraction to stories about people who find an odd way into something. These guys definitely found a very peculiar and odd way into making a lot of money.

“As a young 20 year-old, I can’t imagine I’d think this would be the route to go down.”

War Dogs is released in cinemas in the UK on August 26.
