Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael didn’t look too far away from her TV alter-ego Lady Edith in an elegant baby blue vintage dress.

They were joined by co-star and Selma actor David Oyelowo and his wife Jessica, who upstaged him in her beautiful, glittering black dress.

Other stars from the movie on the red carpet at London’s Leicester Square were Tom Felton and Charlotte Hope and the film’s director Amma Asante, who is famed for 2013 movie Belle.

The film tells the love story of Seretse Khama, King of Bechuanaland, now modern Botswana, and Ruth Williams, the London office worker he married in 1948 in the face of opposition from their families and governments.

The premiere marked the opening night gala of the annual London Film Festival, which will run until October 16.
