There's a bitter irony in using chat-up lines.

It could be the most sentimental, witty or funny phrase ever conjured by the human mind - but they still make you cringe when people use them in real life.

Of course, they have a different effect in movies - it's all perfectly delivered and romantic, making you wish real life was that magical.
