A YOUNG Glasgow filmmaker is getting ready to see his work on the big screen, with not one, but two shorts showing at this weekend's Ickle Film Festival.

Actor turned film-maker, Craig Maclachlan, who appeared in River City and Taggart, got his first taste of producing when he put on a play during last year's West End Festival and has never looked back.

Reflections - the first film made by Craig's new Maclachlan 84 production company - and Glory Hunter - the story of a kickboxer faced with one last shot at the world title - will feature this weekend at the festival in Dundee.

"We're really happy that Reflections is going to premiere in front of a big audience," said Craig, who has been having a busy year.

"Another film, Land Of Scorpions, was entered into the online My Rode Reel International Film Festival and was very well received," he said.

"We have also wrapped on Dark Haven, a new TV pilot, which is a brand new take on the vampire genre set in a mystical Scotland, and has megatalent on board, including Scottish singer/song-writer John Taylor, whose music is in the massive US hit show Californication."

So far, the Dark Haven trailer has received rave reviews and last week Craig released the new John Taylor Heavens Collide music video, which he both starred in and directed.

It took 10 days to shoot Dark Haven, the story of a girl in America who starts a new job in a bar and quickly realises it is a haven for supernatural creatures.

"My work isn't all horror but it's usually darker. Not that that reflects my life," he laughs.

"I just feel I'm better at that and I think I can tell a better story ... it's more realistic.

"I don't think I'm good at comedy or fluffy romcom, I can certainly act in it but I don't think I can direct it. I just like the darker side of things."
