THIS year's Oscar nominees gathered for the ultimate Hollywood power lunch ahead of next month's awards show.

And the leading ladies took centre stage among the 200 stars at the annual Oscars nominees luncheon at the Beverley Hilton.

Dame Judi Dench was the only Best Actress nominee unable to appear, as Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock graced the red carpet and were joined by a host of actors, directors and technical wizards from the biggest films of the last 12 months.

Voting starts on Friday and the luncheon was a chance for nominees to turn on the charm by praising the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the magic of Hollywood filmmaking.

Blanchett, the favourite to win best actress for her role as a disgraced socialite in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, said this nomination "certainly took me by surprise."

The Academy Awards takes place on Sunday, March 2.
