Last night, at Gamescom 2013, Sony finally revealed the launch date of their next generation console, the PlayStation 4.

Their new box of tricks will launch in the UK on November 29 - two weeks after America gets its grubby paws on it - and they reiterated that the retail price will be £349, £80 less than Microsoft's Xbox One.

Sony also took the opportunity to show off a raft of new titles for PS3, PS Vita and the PS4 in the process.

LittleBigPlanet Hub is coming to PS3 and will follow a free-to-play model, while the highly anticipated Gran Turismo 6 takes to the road on December 6.

The PS Vita remains a top priority for Sony and it was announced that Gearbox's loot drop heavy shooter, Borderlands 2 is coming to the hand-held. Other titles announced for Sony's portable console included Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, Football Manager and Lego Marvel Superheroes.

Indie games also enjoyed a sizeable chunk of the press conference, with a number of titles confirmed for PS Vita, including a follow up to the brilliant Hotline Miami: Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, Polytron's visually splendid Fez, two Roguelikes in the shape of Wasteland Kings and Rogue Legacy, Chucklefish's cracking looking Starbound and Mike Bithell's recently announced game, Volume. Dear Esther developer The Chinese Room's mysterious new game Everybody's Gone To The Rapture and a follow up to brilliant indie shooter Velocity were also announced.

For me, though, the most exciting Vita game shown was the eerie and atmospheric Murasaki Baby, which featured wonderful art direction and touch screen gameplay where you lead a girl to safety through fiendish looking levels.

It was also revealed that from today, the PS Vita will be reduced to £169 and those expensive memory cards would also be reduced in price.

On PlayStation 4, Sony showed off Shadow of the Beast - a reimagined version of the Amiga classic and the spellbinding cell-shaded adventure game Rime, which brought memories of Ico, Zelda: The Windwaker and Journey flooding back. Ubisoft were also on hand to show off a PS4 demo of the forthcoming Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, and took time to demonstrate the PS Vita's Remote Play capabilities. This allows players to play the PS4 game on their hand-held and it was also announced that most PS4 games will be playable on Vita, which is great news for those sharing a TV with the rest of the house.

Minecraft is also making its way to PS4, no real surprise as Mojang's game is everywhere it seems, but it's a nice addition to the PS4's launch day line up.

So exciting days ahead as the next gen war heats up. Still no word about a release date for Microsoft's Xbox One, but expect news of that in the near future.
