Headlining the BBC Introducing stage is a good opportunity for any band with the easy listening pop hooks that draw in the casual BBC Three viewer.
Hector Bizerk aren’t terrible interested in easy listening pop hooks.
Instead, the hip hop Glaswegians lean more towards the experimental, sometimes abrasive kind of hip hop that inspires very mixed reactions, but asks important questions like “Who the f*ck are you, Christopher Columbus?”
At the very front of the stage is a hardcore of Bizerk fans, familiar with their notoriously intense live shows after their previous appearances on the festival circuit.
These are the fans that can enhance a performance, especially during songs like the appropriately titled Festival Boy and Bury the Hatchet, which are both highlights.
However, with three heavy-duty headliners occupying three larger stages, the crowd is sparse, only the few at the front really getting into the gig.
It’s a shame because on this evidence, Hector Bizerk would thrive with a bigger audience more prepared to interact and this could have been their moment.
