Sir Elton John has said he has forgiven Dolce and Gabanna for their comments about IVF children and is looking forward to wearing their clothes again.

The singer called for a boycott of designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in March after they made comments to an Italian magazine calling children conceived by IVF "synthetic".

Sir Elton has two sons, Zachary, four, and Elijah, two, with husband David Furnish.

He wrote on his Instagram page: "Big thanks to Stefano and Domenico for the apology over their comments about IVF children.

"We have always been big fans of their work.

"Now that the slate is clean we look forward wearing their designs once again.

"We love Italy!"

Business partners Dolce and Gabbana, who are both gay and were formerly a couple, have previously voiced their rejection of same-sex marriage, and in March Dolce told Panorama: "...what I call children of chemistry don't convince me, synthetic children".

He said: "Wombs for hire, (are a) choice from a catalogue.

"And then you have to explain to this child who is the mother.

"To procreate ought to be an act of love, today not even psychiatrists are ready to confront the effects of these experiments."

But in a new interview with Vogue published this week he apologised.

Dolce said: "I am so sorry.

"It was not my intention to offend anyone.

"I've done some soul-searching.

"I've talked to Stefano a lot about this.

"I've realised that my words were inappropriate, and I apologise.

"They are just kids.

"You don't need labels, baby labels.

"I think everybody chooses for themselves.

"I don't know everything about IVF, but I love it when people are happy.

"It's like medicine.

"Science has been put on the table to help people."

When the first interview was published in March, Sir Elton hit back on social media, writing: "How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic'.

"I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana."

Responding to the boycott calls, Gabbana later said in a statement that "it was never our intention to judge other people's choices. We do believe in freedom and love".

Earlier this month, Sir Elton attacked the new mayor of Venice on social media after he banned books about homosexuality from the city's schools.

The multi-award-winning singer told his fans that "beautiful Venice is indeed sinking, but not as fast as the boorishly bigoted Brugnaro".

Mayor Luigi Brugnaro's has reportedly banned a total of 49 books featuring same-sex couples from schools, fulfilling one of his campaign promises.
