Former Spice Girl Mel B is hopping on board a bus as the conductor of the Westfield Christmas Before Christmas Service.

She will step on the bus at 8am on November 23, near the iconic London Eye.

The combination of Mel B and a bus will spark memories of the Union Jack double decker bus the Spice Girls had in their 1997 movie Spice World.

"It'll be a nice way to kick off the Christmas holiday vibe right now," the star said.

"The kids are looking forward to it, I'm looking forward to it and Westfield never lets you down. It's got everything you could possibly need for a good shopping experience."

The brand new festive experience, produced by Westfield to celebrate the run-up to Christmas, will open to the public for two days on November 22 and the following day.

The route will run between Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City. It will also stop off at various locations and allow people to board.

"Christmas is all about kids," she said. "It's the one holiday where you can really go for it. My youngest is four so I think it's probably her last year of believing in Santa Claus so we're going to go all out."

Full name Melanie Brown, but now known as Mel B, the 40-year-old said the Spice Girls enjoyed success because they had control.

"I don't think we could have done it if anybody was telling us how to do things," she stated.

"We had our own way of doing it, our own way of dressing, our own way of conducting ourselves in interviews and in the studio and writing our own music. That was the only way we knew."

Formed in 1994, the Spice Girls - Mel B (Scary Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie C (Sporty Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) - remain one of the most successful girl groups in music history.

She said: "It's the 20th anniversary next year so we're hoping to be getting back together and doing a celebration or maybe music possibly, it's up for discussion, up in the air, right now."

Asked about One Direction's forthcoming hiatus, she said: "They were put together. We formed ourselves so it was up to us whether we wanted to work or not.

"We had nobody telling us what to do or telling us what to wear or where we were going to tour. We kind of made all those decisions by ourselves."

The singer has successfully transitioned her career to TV, with judging stints on The X Factor, Australia's Got Talent and America's Got Talent, among others.

She was recently confirmed as the host of Channel 5's Lip Sync Battle, based on the US version hosted by LL Cool J.

In the show, two stars compete against each other as they perform a hit song.

Mel B said her ideal guests have to have "celebrity status".

She added: "I did have a meeting with the producers and they are so open to whoever wants to do it. The people that they choose really have to be willing to be up for it and be of some kind of celebrity status.

"But the whole thing is a light-hearted, fun show where you can just switch it on and have a good laugh."
