Verdict: Three stars.

When Jason Derulo last came to Glasgow, he played the city's 02 Academy.

That was March, 2014.

Fast-forward almost two years and a catchy worldwide hit has propelled him to the SSE Hydro stage in front of thousands of adoring fans.

Talk Dirty took Derulo to a new level of fame, moving him away from an artist who sang his own name to a credible innovator in the world of pop R'n'B.

His climb to the top has, however, been a slow one, starting off as a songwriter for fellow US stars Danity Kane, Cassie and Lil Wayne, but it was worth the wait.

As he proved exactly why he deserves to take centre stage at one of the world's biggest entertainment venues on Friday night.

With a countdown clock on stage, and celebrity announcers Ryan Seacrest, Jimmy Fallon and Ellen de Generes, Derulo arrival on stage was anything but low key.

Trumpets set the tone for the show as the high energy opener allowed Derulo to show off his vocals and impressive moves.

The Snoop Dogg club banger Wiggle quickly followed before Derulo thanked his fans and paid tribute to the fact he has performed in the city four times.

The star is a showman, his concert is flash, there is clever choreography and it's on a grand scale.

But stripped back, Derulo singing The Little Mix duet Secret Love Song proved how good his voice is. His stand-in for the girls LA singer JESLYN also had an incredible voice.

The pop charts have missed that R'n'B sound which peaked in the 00s and Derulo has of way of making it accessible to everyone.

Tracks like Whatcha Say and In My Head are the perfect crossover tunes, and clearly these songs were the ones the fans wanted to hear.

Glasgow Times:

The singer kept up the grandeur by pulling a magic trick quite literally as he appeared at the other side of the venue for the aptly-named track Other Side.

It's a rarity for the an artist to do this and I certainly have never seen it at the SSE Hydro.

My only criticism is although the production was outstanding, some details perhaps got lost due to the size of the venue. You appreciate the technique involved in Derulo's choreography more in an intimate setting like Glasgow's o2 Academy.

Finishing on a high and more stripped down - Derulo likes to show off his impressive six-pack - the singer gave us that song Talk Dirty.

Want to Want Me finished the show and proved Derulo has the talent to keep those big hits coming.
