An American acapella singer has become a hit after releasing his version of the Scottish classic Loch Lomond.

Peter Hollens published the track on his social media a few days ago - and it has already attracted hundreds of thousands of hits.

He said he decided to do the song as so many of his fans had requested it, and the track took two years to make.

He said on his website: "So I realised I haven’t done a folk song in while and you all have been requesting Loch Lomond for such a long time now and you have all been extremely patient about it too. Well finally, here it is as requested!

"This song has actually been in the works for two years now, it’s been heavily requested, and I thought it would be a good time to release it because of those requests but also because I noticed we were coming close to Robbie Burns’ Birthday (January 25th, 1759). If you don’t know, he was known as the national poet of Scotland and known for works such as A Red, Red Rose.

"I adore this song, it’s so much fun to sing and I really enjoyed this arrangement (thanks Tom!)."
