Ellie Goulding has said she is scared at the prospect of singing at the Grammy Awards – because “America is just a whole other game”.

The British singer will perform alongside some of the biggest music stars in the world on the show which last year was watched live on television by 25 million people.

She joins Adele, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd on this year’s line-up.

Ellie is nominated for best pop solo performance for her 50 Shades Of Grey soundtrack hit Love Me Like You Do.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on ITV’s Lorraine, she said: “It’s the first time I’ve been nominated. I’ve been before and it’s an amazing night, but this year I’m also performing, so it’s quite scary.

“America is just a whole other game with music.

“I’m going out there in a few days and it’s going to be a hectic week. But they have parties and stuff, so I’m sure it will be balanced out.”

On the prospect of performing for the music industry rather than fans, she said: “It is scary in that respect.

“But I want to prove myself, and sing a song that I’m so proud of, and so proud to sing and perform – so I’m looking forward to it.”

Ellie, 29, is in a relationship with McFly’s Dougie Poynter – but asked how often she sees him, she replied: “Not much.”

She told Lorraine: “He’s out in LA, he’s working really hard, he’s doing all sorts of things.

“He’s started acting which is amazing, and he’s a complete natural, so I’m really excited to see what comes of that.

“We figure it out, we work it out. We’re pretty realistic with things and we’re pretty sensible about it, so we just see each other when we can.”

On the question of settling down together, she said: “It’s that kind of time that everything becomes up in the air – but at some point maybe.”
