Prince has taken not only the number one spot in the Billboard 200 album chart this week – he’s also posthumously secured numbers two and six.

Not only that, the superstar – who died on April 21 – has a total of eight albums in the 200 most listened to by people in the US, according to Billboard figures.

Incredibly, the figures were tracked to the end of the week ending April 21 so the latest data takes into account just around a half-day of sales, which were enough to take him to numbers one and two.

The Very Best of Prince, which features greatest hits from 1999 to When Doves Cry, takes the top spot with 179,000 album units in just a few hours, (up 10,872% on the previous week), while 1984 film soundtrack Purple Rain came in at number two with 69,000 units during that half day.

The Billboard 200 chart takes figures from the US and includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Prince’s triple album The Hits/The B-Sides also re-enters at number six with 41,000 units, while 1999 takes number 31, Ultimate takes number 61, Sign ‘O’ the Times charts at 95, HITnRun: Phase One gets number 147 and his self-titled album made it into number 160.

The posthumous achievement marks Prince’s fifth number one album on the Billboard 20 chart and he is also the first act with albums at both number one and two in more than 10 years since Nelly’s simultaneous Suit and Sweat albums debuted in the top two spots in October 2004.

The success of The Very Best of Prince marks the first greatest hits to make number one since 2007 since The Notorious B.I.G’s Greatest Hits took number one in March 2007, 10 years after his death.

The latest figures also set a record for Prince – Purple Rain’s 100th cumulative week in the Billboard 200. They also bring Prince’s number of top 10 albums to 18.
