The organisers of a new music festival featuring six of the world’s biggest rock acts have added a second weekend due to “overwhelming demand”.

The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Sir Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and The Who will share the stage at Desert Trip in California in October.

It was announced last week the headliners will play full sets, without support acts, across the three nights from October 7-9 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

A spokesman for the event said: “Due to overwhelming demand, a second weekend has been added to Desert Trip, Friday, October 14 to Sunday, October 16.”

Fans who want to get up close to the veteran rockers need deep pockets as standing tickets in the pit area in front of the stage cost 1,599 dollars (£1,099).

Three day passes were priced from 399 dollars (£274), while, single day passes were available for 199 dollars (£137).

Rumours of the blockbuster festival leaked last month and all the acts except Young teased their involvement on May 1, releasing 30-second clips of some of their most famous songs on social media with the single word “October”.

Desert Trip has been organised by Goldenvoice and AEG Live, the groups behind Coachella, and is held at the same venue as the music festival which saw LCD Soundsystem, Guns ‘N’ Roses and Calvin Harris headline this year.

Over each weekend, The Rolling Stones and Dylan will perform on the first night, followed by Sir Paul and Young on the second evening, and then Waters and The Who on the third day.

Tickets for the event went on sale today.
