Kanye West recently knocked Michael Jackson off the top 10 list of male artists with the most top 40 hits – angering some MJ fans not just because Michael had been displaced, but because it was Kanye who displaced him.

But Michael’s daughter Paris disagreed with the comments people were making about Kanye and music more generally, writing a pretty much perfect defence of the Chicago native and revealing some unknown information about her father in the process.

The 18-year-old explained that the first time she heard Kanye’s critically acclaimed 808 & Heartbreak album was through her father, who “played it all the time”.

MJ died six months after the album’s release, and just over a year before the release of what’s widely considered to be Kanye’s greatest album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Kanye surpassed MJ’s record with his 40th top 40 for his feature on ScHoolboy Q’s THat Part, while the artist was last year’s recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard MTV Award.
