COUNTRY singer-songwriter Gary Quinn is hoping to tug at the heartstrings of his Scottish fans when he brings his UK tour to Glasgow this month.

For the Northern Irishman latest EP I Remember is about his divorce and the heartache he went through following his separation.

“Separation is a lot more common nowadays then generations gone previously but I've still found it difficult so it's bound to have had an impact on my writing,” he admitted.

He added: “ The experience has allowed me to see things a little differently and, like the album, retrospectively.

“ Importantly I think writing and performing have been very cathartic for me in my efforts to move forward and I am writing quite positively at present.”

It’s perhaps his honesty in his song writing that Scottish fans should mark his tour date in their diaries.

He is due to play Broadcast in Glasgow on September 6 with support coming from Luke and Mel, and he can’t wait.

He said: “(My fans) can expect stories, fun and some damn good country songs that will tug at their heartstrings and make them laugh!”

He added: “I've been to Glasgow on a few occasions and performed once in the city.

“ I've always enjoyed visiting and the night life obviously being from Northern Ireland.

“Scottish fans have always been good to me and I think there's a strong affinity with country music in Scotland like back home in Ireland.

“After all our ancestors did contribute to the country music story in America.”

With a CV that already boasts a number of British Country Music Awards, fans of the singer will be eager to his next offering.

He said: “I’ve gone for the EP title of I Remember as I feel that it wraps up the feel of the EP pretty well.

“It’s a very personal project and the tracks cover different times in my own life though to now, so it’s almost a reflective piece of work.”

He added: “I Remember also comes from a line in Each Night You Lie which features on the EP.

“It’s an EP that I’m really proud of, both to have had the experiences to write about and the quality that producer Thomm Jutz, and my co-writers David C Banning and Nick Nichols have brought to the songs.

“I’m really fired up to get the new EP out to the fans as although I’ve retained a lot of the Gary Quinn sound from my debut album.”

He continued: “I think the team have also added a little more edge to some of the recordings, Shame for example.

“I feel I’ve also held true to the lyric being the strongest part of the song which is core to why I’m first and foremost a country fan and then a country performer.

“One of my favourites on the EP is Body Language as it’s just a little bit fun but equally I love The Best Man Won, but folk will just have to listen to find out why.”

Despite going through a tough time in his personal life, Gary admits he still remains somewhat positive about love.

He said: “I know I definitely did believe in it totally in the past. Hopefully that comes back again.

“I'm the kinda of person that never says never. There are some uplifting tracks on the EP, First Glance in particular has a very positive look at love.”

With artists like Taylor Swift hitting the heights of mainstream success with her country sound, and shows like Nashville ruling TV schedules, country has never been more popular which is something Gary has saw firsthand.

He said: “I think there is a strong and loyal following of country music that is growing every month.

“There's been an explosion of new young talent coming through which is great for the fans and musicians alike. Long may it continue.”

He added: “I think Nashville and Country to Country in London have both had an impact in helping country music become more popular.

“I also think BBC Radio 2 and stations like Chris Country and 2Country Radio have been very important in spreading the sound.

“Likewise, the bravery of the writers, artists and musicians to take a chance and get out there, and play country.

“Finally, the loyalty of the country fans has been most important.”

With a few months left of this year, Gary still has plenty on his calender music wise to look forward to including a trip to country mecca Nashville.

He said: “I will be a working trip to Nashville to co-write and perform as well as meeting with some contacts to help myself and Karl Hancock improve the festival we started in Manchester in June this year called Buckle & Boots.

“I'll also be playing a few more shows in the run up to Christmas so keep your eyes and ears peeled.”
