IT has been ten years since Vancouver based four-piece Marianas Trench made their industry debut with album ‘Fix You’.

The pop-rock band, made up of Matt, Mike, Ian and Josh are now set to tour the UK for the first time and will be stopping off in Scotland to play Glasgow’s Garage on Friday September 30.

In their home country of Canada, the boys have had two platinum-selling records, chart topping hits including ‘Fallout’, ‘Haven’t Had Enough’ and ‘Stutter’ and have garnered multiple industry awards.

Bass player, Mike Ayley, said: “This will be our first time as a band touring the UK in any capacity. It gives us a chance to make sure that the fans coming out will get the full experience and not an abbreviated set.

“At this point we don't have any experience first hand of our British fans but the fact that three of the shows sold out well in advance and that the other two shows will probably sell out as well is a good sign of what we're going to see.

“We can't wait to see the reaction from fans across the Atlantic who have waited very patiently for us to come.”

Unlike most run of the mill pop bands, Marianas Trench don’t shy away from doing something a bit different.

Each of their albums have a theme or setting.

Second album ‘Masterpiece Theatre’ was inspired by broadway musicals, 2011’s ‘Ever After’ was set in the world of a dark, Tim Burton-esque fairytale and Astoria, released last year, was inspired by coming of age adventure movies from the 80s.

Mike explains: “Our music covers a lot of territory. There is a clear pop element which is evident in the singles/videos but we also do some really creative stuff on the albums.

“We have used the Vancouver Film Symphony Orchestra on our past two albums to get a real human feel and rich sound when we've wanted that type of touch.

“We sing a lot of harmonies in our music. The Beach Boys and Queen are significant influences on our music. On our fourth album, we really explored the sounds of the 80's and did our own take on some of the great music that came out of that decade.”

The band's lead singer, Josh Ramsay, is no stranger to writing a hit, having recently been nominated for a Grammy award for co-writing the Carly Rae Jepsen chart topper ‘Call Me Maybe’ and racking up songwriting credits for Nickleback and 5 Seconds of Summer.

Having faced various personal issues, including drug addiction, the bands music is a full and frank exploration of their personal lives - something they don't shy away from sharing with live crowds.

Mike explained: “The subject nature is all autobiographical. It just seems like that's the way to write. I'm not sure how else you could get up on stage and pour your heart and soul into a performance about something that just doesn't connect emotionally.

“I wouldn't say nerves come into play, but reliving those personal, most intense experiences, every night definitely can be hard to go through some days.”
