Soph from The Big Moon talks to the Evening Times about the group's debut album and what makes the perfect band.

1 Tell me about your single Silent Movie Susie?

It's one of my faves to play live, I just wanna jump up and down the whole time. It's flip side is a cover of Beautiful Stranger by Madonna, which is equally as fun to play live.

2 The video for the single has attracted a lot of attention, what was the inspiration behind it?

The director Louis Bhose came up with it. There's something really amusing about a barbie doing normal things that people do in normal life. She became a real character and we got excited brainstorming everything she could be doing but it was Louis who came up with it all. He also did our videos for Cupid and Nothing Without You too. He's the best.

3 Were you surprised by how well your EP Cupid was received by fans and critics?

Yeah! It's really exciting and encouraging to hear things back, makes me more excited to put more out.

4 You have only been together in this line-up for a few years, what’s been the key to your success?

We really like each other.

5  You mentioned previously that the line-up for the band is ‘just right’, what made you realise that this line-up was 'just right'?

Celia was last to join and Jules cried when we played the first song together with her! We get on really well, and that was something we realised really quickly, before we even realised that we're good at playing together. It's just lucky really!

6 Has finding the right line-up changed you as musicians?

I think it's changed me! I was a little reverb obsessed before I met Jules, and she was the opposite. She actually had a dream really early on that I made her put loads of delay and reverb on everything and she freaked out. But yeah, playing with her has made me hold back on that stuff and try playing with more dry and distorted sounds. Also some of the parts she makes up are so different to the things I make up, and it's a really fun challenge to play them.

7 Are you working on your debut album?

Yes we are! We're mixing it now actually. We recorded it with Catherine Marks who's brilliant. Her and Cecil Bartlett, who engineered it decorated the studio with Hawaiian leis and various blow up inflatable monkeys, palm trees and bananas. Vibes. That's Catherine's most used word. It's felt like it's been a long time coming - we're so so excited to share it.

8 How would you describe your sound?

Rock with some pop.

9 What can fans expect from your King Tut's show?

Fun I hope! And lots of noise.

10 What’s your favourite Scottish venue?

We played at Usher Hall in Edinburgh with The Vaccines and that was completely beautiful!! It felt special to play there.

11 What are your plans for the future?

Tours! We're going on tour with our friend The Japanese House in America this Autumn which is a real dream.

The Big Moon will play King Tut's in Glasgow on October 29.
