BBC RADIO 6 is set to saturate Glasgow with its unique eclectic music mix when its own music and conversation festival is staged in the city in March.

The 6 Music Festival 2017, which runs from March 24-26 and features 36 acts playing over four venues.

And conversational sets feature the likes of former Sex Pistol John Lydon, musician Anna Meredith and writer Ian Rankin.

Radio Six presenter Lauren Laverne, prior to broadcasting her show live from Glasgow School of Art, revealed the full weekend festival line-up. The former musician declared the 6 Music Festival to be an audience grabber with bands such as Goldfrapp, The Jesus and Mary Chain and appearing.

“I’m really excited about coming back to Glasgow,” she maintained. “I’ve been coming here since I was a teenager and you couldn’t get a more vibrant music scene to plug into.

“I’ve grown up listening to music from this city from bands such as Orange Juice and being a musician myself in the Nineties I’ve hung out with lots of bands such as Mogwai.

“I think this is a fantastic project.”

Gigs are being staged at venues across the city, including the O2 Academy, Barrowland Ballroom and St Luke’s. And 6 Music Festival Late runs at SWG3 on March 25 featuring DJ sets from the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Nightwave and Optimo.

Lauren Laverne also announced the line-up for 6 Music Festival By Day, "a celebration of live music, conversation, comedy and spoken word."

The event takes place at Glasgow’s Tramway on March 25 and 26.

Highlights include performances from Father John Misty, Edwyn Collins, Sinkane, Temples, Emma Pollock and The Wedding Present.

Councillor Frank McAveety, Leader of Glasgow City Council is effusive about the project.

“As the UK’s first ever UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow lives and breathes music 365 days a year,” he said.

“Since Radio 1’s Big Weekend came here in 2014 - when a fantastic local crowd showed the world that Glasgow knows how to party - we’ve been working with the BBC to bring another event here.

“This reinforces our position as a must-play destination, with great people, great music and a hugely ambitious events industry.”

Tickets for all the events go on sale at 10am on February 24. Full details are available at bbc.co.uk/6music.

Highlights will be screened on BBC Scotland and on BBC Four.
