Verdict: Five Stars

AN audience of all ages rocked out with Bryan Adams at the SSE Hydro on Saturday night.

And is it any wonder? The Canadian star has had hits every decade since he first came on to the scene in the mid 70s - and he proved that by showcasing the best of his rock pop back catalogue.

Visuals played a big part of the show from the offset with the keen photographer opening up his set with the conscious rock track Ultimate Love.

The 58-year-old then took it old school with hits Can’t Stop This Thing We Started and Run to You.

He beamed: “Hello my name is Bryan, we have a great show for you tonight.”

And he delivered just that. Oozing natural charisma, he had the audience in the palm of his hands as he performed the beautiful ballad Heaven, which was a real highlight of the night.

Bryan is one of those few artists who can claim legendary status. His music moves with the times but at the heart of it is good old rock n roll amplified through a voice like no other.

The Summer of 69 was a moment to remember. The track now has anthem status and the audience came alive when he exceed expectations with his performance of it.

An acoustic version of the Mel C duet When You’re Gone reminded the audience of Adams’ unique talent to work with versatile voices.

And although we couldn’t escape Everything I Do, I Do It For You in the 90s, hearing the hit live proved why it deserved its long running top of the pops status.

Adams was at the top of his game from start to finish at the Hydro and his experience as a performer showed.

His music was made for a venue like this and his audience were grateful that he choose a set which pleased them all.

And that is something Adams acknowledged as he closed the show he smiled, “I think that is as close to magic we can get.”
