GLASGOW band The Modests are gearing up for a mammoth battle of the bands which could win them a place in summer festival.

 

The four piece gwill be competing in the Hard Rock Rising regional finals in Glasgow's hard rock cafe tomorrow. (Wednesday)

They had won their earlier heat and are through to the regional final, hosted in the legendary rock cafe's Buchanan Street site.

Comprising Daniel McGuigan, 19, drummer, Fiachra O'Hara, 20, bassist and guitarist, Jackson Harvey, 20, vocalist and Liam Campbell, 18, guitarist, The Modests describe themselves as mostly psychedelic hard rock.

Vocalist Jackson Harvey said: "We just want to avoid any pretences and give people something honest. We're just folk with different tastes throwing our colours on a canvas and seeing what happens. If it isn't a pretty picture, buy vogue. We're the panorama of new music."

The Glaswegian band has been together since 2009, having all gone to school in the city. Jackson, Fiachra and Daniel all went to Lourdes Secondary School and guitarist Liam went to St Margaret's High School.

The band has already won the Glasgow City Sounds awards in 2012, however have no expectations for the Hard Rock Rising final.

Jackson added: "After six years together I think we've learnt to not expect anything. Then the bad isn't so bad and the good is a welcome surprise."

The Modests explained that within their music they attempt to encompass all the genres and influences of their individual inspirations.

"If we were to cover the influences of the four of us, we would be stretching across almost everything. That accounts for some of our more outlandish sounds," added Jackson.

Following the regional final on Wednesday, the wining band will join other city winners in the global competition where fans will vote on participating Hard Rock Facebook pages to narrow down the 80+ local winners to the top 25 bands.

These 25 bands will then be judged by a panel of esteemed celebrities and music industry professionals, who will select the Grand Prize winner, this winning band will go on to perform at Hard Rock Rising Barcelona music festival this summer all expenses paid.
