MORE than 500,000 tickets have been sold for music gigs this summer, with 260,000 of them being snapped up for events in Glasgow.

DF Concerts & Events, Scotland's biggest promoter, said it sold the record number between June and August for 163 events, including Robbie Williams, The Stone Roses and T In The Park .

The 20th anniversary of T In The Park sold 250,000 tickets, while two nights of Robbie Williams at Hampden Park sold 110,000 and The Stone Roses at Glasgow Green sold 50,000.

This year also saw the introduction of the Glasgow Summer Sessions, which sold 100,000 tickets across three nights in August. The concerts included acts such as Kings Of Leon, rappers Eminem and Tinie Tempah, and DJ and producer Avicii.

Geoff Ellis, chief executive of DF Concerts & Events, said: "This has been one of the strongest summers for live music we have ever experienced.

"Although people generally have less money to spend on leisure pursuits and going out than they did a few years ago, people still want to enjoy the live music experience at all levels.

"This trend also has a fantastic knock-on effect for Scotland's wider economy, as people have flocked here to attend shows.

"For example, 60% of the ticket sales for Summer Sessions came from outwith Glasgow, while T in the Park continues to attract fans from across the UK, Europe and beyond."
