Two of the biggest music festivals in the world have forbidden attendees from taking photo-enabling items with them - with one even banning 'narcissists.'

Lollapalooza in Chicago listed "GoPro attachments like sticks, selfie sticks and monopods" in its list of prohibited items, while California's Coachella event went one step further and listed 'narsisstics' [sic] too.

Selfie sticks are a growing concern in music venues - not just on a health and safety scale, but their use could ruin the gig experience for other people in the crowd by blocking their view.

But by the looks of things, Coachella is cracking down on the seeming vanity of festival goers who want to be photographed at the event - but the superficial, glamorised image of the festival and its 'style over music' clientele has been a long-running joke.

Instagram went down during last year's Coachella, prompting speculation that too many people had been uploading photos and spurring jokes that most people there would have a meltdown.

The Californian festival is essentially getting free promotion when people post selfies on the #coachella hashtag - particularly with celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens and Cara Delevingne taking snaps there in their bohemian outfits.

So is Coachella maybe shooting itself in the foot by insisting that selfie-lovers pack it in over the weekend?
