GLASGOW is set for a whirlwind week of music as some of the world's top acts perform in the city.

Kings of Leon, Avicii, Tinie Tempah, and Eminem are scheduled to perform a series of outdoor concerts in the coming days.

The Glasgow Summer Sessions kick-off tonight, with US rockers Kings of Leon taking to the stage at Bellahouston Park.

Dance legend Avicii, the man behind smash hits Wake Me Up and Levels, will light up the South Side park on Saturday night. It will be the DJ's debut gig on Scottish soil.

Rapper Tinie Tempah and Clyde 1 breakfast show host, George Bowie will also be entertaining the crowds.

Geoff Ellis, chief executive of DF Concerts, said: "Glasgow Summer Sessions will be the perfect end to a fantastic festival season."

The music promoter, who is behind T in the Park festival, added: "We hope everyone has a brilliant summer finale."

Eminem will bring Glasgow's Summer Sessions to a close on Tuesday night. Tickets for the rap superstar's concert sold out in less than 24 hours.

City leaders believe the gigs will bring a "significant economic boost" to the area.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "Glasgow is the place to be for music fans this August, as the city prepares to welcome international mega stars to play at the first ever Glasgow Summer Sessions.

"Music fans from across Scotland and beyond are set to descend on Glasgow for the three concerts at Bellahouston Park, bringing with them a significant economic boost to the city.

"As a UNESCO City of Music, our vibrant music scene and fantastic audiences are renowned worldwide with global artists recognising that Glasgow is a must play destination.

According to the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, around 2.2 million people visited Glasgow for leisure reasons, including gigs, last year.

More than 20% of them travelled from outside the UK, spending approximately £578m in the local area.

Councillor Matheson, who is also chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, added: "This year is shaping up to be an immense year for the city's legendary music scene.

"With the inaugural Glasgow Summer Sessions this month, followed by the opening of the SSE Hydro in September and the hosting of the MOBO Awards in October."

As reported by the Evening Times, extra buses will transport music fans to sell-out gigs in Bellahouston Park. Coach operator Scottish Citylink along with transport group ComfortDelGro will put on a shuttle service from Buchanan Bus Station to Bellahouston.

Buses will leave every 15 minutes from 3pm and there is also a return service.

Coaches will also run between Glasgow and 14 other Scottish towns and cities including Edinburgh, Aberdeen, St Andrews and Perth.

Throughout the summer, a host of musicians, including Bruce Springsteen, Robbie Williams and The Who, have played in the city.

Although there is a packed schedule of entertainment for the coming days, it is likely to be only the start of a busy period for Glasgow, with the new Hydro Arena due to open next month.

Rod Stewart is set to open the arena with a concert on September 30, followed by three more on October 2, 4 and 5.

The 68-year-old singer will be followed by rock legends Fleetwood Mac on October 3, The Proclaimers on October 12, and Depeche Mode on November 11.

Glasgow band Simple Minds will perform at the Hydro on November 27, with Black Sabbath and Status Quo are also scheduled to play at the new venue before the year is out.
