A Glasgow singer-songwriter who shared the stage with soul legend Nina Simone at her last ever Glasgow show is searching for a lost photograph that captured the moment.

Young fan Warren McIntyre was plucked from the crowd to dance with the American singer at her Mayfest show in Glasgow Green on May 3, 1994.

The unforgetable moment stayed with Warren and now 21 years on, the singer is to pay tribute to civil rights activist Nina with a tribute night at Royal Concert Hall, joined by Belle and Sebastian's Stevie Jackson.

Warren is also hoping to track down one of three fans who captured his unforgettable moment on camera at the landmark gig.

Famous for hits including My Baby Just Cares For Me, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and I Put a Spell on You, Nina Simone died in 2003, aged 70,

Warren, 47, who lives in Glasgow's south side, said: "Being only a few feet away from Nina and dancing with her on stage in front of thousands of people was something I never expected when I woke up that morning.

"I was very young and it was a scary but amazing and electrifying experience. The gig is something I've wanted to do for a long time.

"On the night there were three different people who took a photograph.

"If you were one of these people, and are willing to share a copy of one of the photos, then you and friend will be given free tickets for the show, a bottle of champagne and be able to meet the band before the show."

The sixth child of a preacher's family in North Carolina, Nina Simone aspired to be a concert pianist.

Her musical path changed direction after she was denied a scholarship to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, despite a well-received audition.

She later found out from an insider at Curtis that she was denied entry because she was black.

To fund her continuing musical education and become a classical pianist, she began playing in a small club in Philadelphia where she was also required to sing.

A Celebration of Nina Simone is taking place at the Royal Concert Hall on Saturday March 21.
